NIRADHAR - Rainwater Harvesting System of A.P.C. College

Rainwater which runs off is an avoidable liquid waste. Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and storing rainwater for later use. It typically involves capturing rainwater from rooftops or other surfaces, filtering it to remove debris, and storing it in tanks or barrels. This harvested rainwater can then be used for various purposes like watering plants, flushing toilets, and even for some household uses after proper treatment. Rainwater harvesting helps conserve water, reduce reliance on traditional water sources, lower water bills, and is environmentally friendly by reducing runoff and replenishing groundwater.

In keeping with our mission statement of inculcatingthrough our activities a concern for the environment in these young minds , A.P.C. College successfully implemented a rain-water harvesting system- “NIRADHAR” almost a decade back. Rainwater is collected from the terrace of the Girls hostel on the campus and collected in 2,000 litres tank. The collected water is utilized in two ways –
(i) supplies water to the ground-floor washrooms of the Girls hostel
(ii) Recharge the water table through a filtration pit.

Rainwater harvesting in educational institutions is an excellent way to promote environmental sustainability, reduce depletion of groundwater reserve and educate students about water conservation practicesso that they may strive for adoption of cleaner and greener technologies in their professional life.
