The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given priority to the downtrodden students and staffs during IX plan period and given direction to all the Universities/Colleges to establish dedicated cells for the backward sections of society.Acharya Prafulla Chandra College strives to provide equal opportunities and inclusive education to all sections of society. To facilitate this vision, the college has established a cell to look into the rights and opportunities of backward sections including the SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Scheduled Tribe), OBC (Other Backward Classes) and Minority. These cells play a vital role in promoting diversity, equity, and social justice within the college community.

This Cell of Acharya Prafulla Chandra College is dedicated to addressing the unique needs and concerns of students and staff belonging to these marginalized and underrepresented communities.. The main aim of the Cell is to monitor the guidelines issued by the MHRD, the University Grants Commission and by the government of West Bengal from time to time. The Cell ensures the effective implementation of the reservation policies in the university admissions to students in various courses of studies, accommodation in the hostels, appointments to the teaching and non-teaching posts, and allotment of quarters in the university, and maintenance of roster register in the University. This cell has been set up in the to ensure proper implementation of various schemes of UGC, Government of India and Govt. of West Bengal concerning scholarships, stipends etc. for welfare of reserved categories.

Objectives

Inclusion: To eliminate discrimination and disparities based on caste, religion, and physical ability and promote an inclusive  and supportive atmosphere for students from SC, ST, OBC and Minority backgrounds.

Equal Opportunities: To monitor and evaluate continuously the reservation policy in Universities and colleges and plan measures for ensuring effective implementation of the policy and programme of UGC, Government of India and Govt. of West Bengal.

Empowerment: To take follow up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down for the purpose by the UGC, Government of India and Govt. of West Bengal with the goal of empowerment of  students from these communities .

Awareness: To raise awareness about the unique challenges and issues faced by these communities and advocate for their rights.

Functions

  • To collect data regarding the implementation of the policies in respect of student admissions, and appointments to teaching & non-teaching positions in the University, and in the affiliated colleges and analyze the data showing the trends and changes towards fulfilling the required quota.
  • To provide information and assistance in accessing scholarships and financial aid schemes of UGC, Government of India and Govt. of West Bengal.
  • Offer mentoring support to students from these backward categories to overcome academic and personal challenges and compete with the mainstream.
  • Organise awareness programs to raise tolerance and eliminate discrimination and disparities based on caste, religion, and physical ability.
